October 29: The PonyWorld Weekly
Quote of the Week
“I’m so sorry for this wonderful mare who had been so successful with Belgium’s Niels Bruynseels and recently joined my stable… Life can be so cruel sometimes but the only consolation for 'Cracky' was that she didn’t suffer."
—Ireland’s Cian O’Connor in a social media statement following the death of the 10-year-old mare, Lady Cracotte, who had recently joined his stable. Lady Cracotte passed away after a freak accident in crossties at a horse show in Montpellier, France.

Beezie Madden and her 2018 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Finals-winning partner, Breitling LS, made a triumphant showing this weekend at the Washington International Horse Show, winning the $135,000 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Washington in Breitling’s first indoor event of the year.
Tell Me More
Madden and the 12-year-old Dutch warmblood stallion defeated a field of 24, topping an all-female podium that included Katie Dinan & Dougie Douglas and our own Lucy Davis & Caracho 14! Madden made use of Breitling’s speed and her own textbook turns to stop the clock at 30.74 seconds. “It shows why he was good at the World Cup [Final]; he walked right in here and was clever, rideable, adjustable, careful, and he can handle tight spaces like this,” she said. (Watch the pair’s jump-off round below!)
Once again this year, Madden has her eyes fixed on the 2019 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final in Göteborg, Sweden. She is still considering which horse to compete at the event, however—and likely won’t decide for months to come. Darry Lou and Breitling are already eligible, and Madden plans to try and qualify Coach as well as new mount, Chic Hin d’Hyrencourt, who will compete in Lexington next month. The 10-year-old gelding, owned by Abigail Wexner, joined Madden’s string in July. “Last year, I didn’t really know which horse I was taking until probably the middle of the Wellington season,” Madden explained. “We will see which one’s on the best form!”

Watch and Learn: Beezie Madden Demos How to Win Indoors
Sure, speed across the ground helps, but when it comes to mastering the tight track and turns of an indoor grand prix course, nobody does it better than Beezie. This weekend in Washington, the four-time Olympian wowed fans by putting the pedal down—and making it look oh-so easy in the process.

H&M Harley vd Bisschop Joins Bertram Allen’s String
Nicola Philippaerts has made the most of two talented mounts this year: H&M Chilli Willi and H&M Harley vd Bisschop, with whom he won the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final and the LGCT Grand Prix of Cascais in June. This week, the Belgian rider announced that he's sold the 11-year-old Belgian stallion, who will move to the stable of Ireland’s Bertram Allen. “We have some precious memories together. I wouldn’t be where I am now without this special horse. Therefore, it’s very hard to say goodbye to this him,” Philippaerts said. “Unfortunately, that’s part of the job. The day you start to work with a horse, you know that this moment will arrive.”
